Grammas Back Door - What Happened

What Happened?

Once this was news, now it's just a historical record.

April 18, 2002

Gramma is dead, I'm sad to say. Well, maybe she's just resting. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

She didn't leave us entirely empty-handed, though; we've scraped together the bits of the unfinished sixth album.

December 18, 2001

Christmas came early for Gramma this year when she got a link from Incompletely Conspicuous, the fan site for The Pursuit of Happiness. It'll probably be gone in short order, but it was on the Audio page, and is the result of bundling some TPOH MP3 files with some GBD ones in a move even Microsoft might find questionable.

But hey, it works for MS, and we love TPOH so all's fair.

January 14, 2001

In an effort to reach more people more smoothly, we've lowered our standards! That is, the streaming audio now uses a lower quality and so should work even if you only have a 56K modem (and may work with a 33.6K modem, if you're lucky).

December 17, 2000

Gramma has had a minor facelift; a slight rearrangement of her bits that may (hopefully) make it harder for you to ignore the songs and may help you find some you like. Take a look.

July 16, 2000

Gramma on the air! On July 21, 2000 PHIL 101 played on WXCI's Reality Break, a comedy show out of Danbury, CT. If you don't believe me, check out the WXCI 2000 playlist, and look for Gramma.

June 10, 2000

In addition to some minor tweaks, we've added a links page. It doesn't have a lot at the moment, but I'm sure it'll fill out over time.

April 8, 2000

I knew that domain name would pay off: we've been blessed with a listing in Yahoo!, correctly alphabetized under Artists - G. The downside is that we've also been labelled as Novelty. Well, I guess I'm honoured to be grouped with Tom Lehrer, Flanders and Swann, and Spinal Tap, all of whom are represented in my music collection on vinyl or CD.

March 4, 2000

Gramma finally got her own domain name. You can now find her at web.weirdways.com/gbd.

Also, I guess this must count as Real Soon Now, because the entire MP3 catalogue is now available.

February 21, 2000

Thanks to the good graces (and taste) of Blake Winton, most of Grammas tunes are available for download as MP3s, and the rest should be along Real Soon Now.

January 15, 2000

We have a spanky new logo you probably saw on the home page, affectionately known as Glass Heart. That may not seem like much, but it was created for some of the CD cover art for the digital reworking of the older tapes, which is now almost finished.

April 5, 1999

The Easter Bunny (or maybe it was the risen Christ) dropped by Grammas with a present: there is now some actual GBD audio available for download! The first available song is (or was, because it will change) I Like Women.

March 29, 1999

Gramma finally got off her butt long enough to whip up some really simple CGI scripts for the 5 CD Seduction, so now your responses will get posted immediately. Not that anyone has responded in quite a while, but maybe that was because they wanted the immediate gratification that is now available.

January 25, 1999

Gramma goes digital, on a CD of previously released material, titled Grampas Favourite Licks! Now you will have to come up with a better excuse than, `my tape deck is busted.'

July 1, 1998

In honour of Canada Day, we present the re-mastered, re-mixed, and re-recorded (partly) I'm Drunken, He's Drunk!

June 11, 1998

Lyrics to Cashmere, the first song recorded for the next tape are now available.

March 26, 1998

Thanks to Chuck Williams we have doubled the number of responses to the 5 CD Seduction!

March 1, 1998

Finally! The release of Stirred, Not Shaken at some indefinite time in the recent past!

December 25, 1997

Merry Christmas! As our special gift to you, we have added some minor navigation aids to the site (note the spanky new Back to Grammas Back Door link (no longer) at the bottom of this page, for instance). Also, the Stirred, Not Shaken info has been updated again: a new song has been added, and the tape is done but for cover art.

November 4, 1997

All songs for Stirred, Not Shaken have been recorded.

October 23, 1997

Four new songs have been recorded for Stirred, Not Shaken.

August 11, 1997

Finally! A response to the 5 CD Seduction!

July 27, 1997

New songs from the UNCOVERED! project. (Okay, they're not really new; I just forgot them in the first round.)

July 7, 1997

Nothing. Same old shit.
